      Train but no railway. .

Walking in the evening or at night in Lander leads to some strange discoveries and give a sort of an insight to-- if not local customs, at least-- local ways of thinking sometimes.
I like a lot the signs at the entrance of hotels or motels like the one on the main picture reminding the area was a place where migrants went through; the sign is interesting against the light and people are proud to tell how they came there.
One flashing light sign gives a sort of the good conscience people have here regarding what Uncle Sam does in the rest of the world. . . . I have some difficulty to imagine that sort of sign in old Europe. . . .
The train is a strange display here, as there was never a railway in Lander; the closest railway has been built 30 miles away in Riverton! And it is not even an old machine, it is a monument dedicated to “Lander Valley local heroes”; engraved on the stone are dates for the early rendezvous of the mountain men , forts and camps built nearby, and a reminder that Lander has been named after the name of a US Army general, but there is not a word about train and railway. . . . .
