Cismigiu Park, Bucharest: 30 reviews and 86 photos

Cismigiu Park, also known as Gradina Cismigiu, is the oldest and most popular downtown park in Bucharest. It is known locally as "lovers' park". It has an area of seventeen hectares. Although nowhere near as big as Herastrau Park, it is a pleasant place to stroll at any time of year.

It was commissioned by Prince Gheorghe Bibescu and designed by the German landscape architect Carl Meyer. Work started on it in 1830 and it was finally inaugurated in 1860.

An artificial lake runs through the park, which can be used for boating in summer and in winter turns into a skating rink. The small Restaurant Monte Carlo stands on a jetty in the lake. There are several statues and monuments, including a monument to the French Heroes of 1916-18 sculpted by Ion Jalea. The park is overlooked at its northern end by Kretzulescu Palace.
