Nicosia Things to Do: 157 reviews and 246 photos

The house was built in 1892 by Ioannis Evangelides, a merchant and given as a dowry to his daughter who married Dr. Nicholas Dervis. Later their son, Dr. Themistoclis Dervis, who was Mayor of Nicosia for 28 years, used the house for his medical practice and the office of the Cypriot National Party

In 1983 the building was about to be demolished. On the initiative of the Mayor of Nicosia Lellos Demetriades, it was bought by the Anastasios G. Leventis Foundation, restored and converted into a historical museum at the Foundation cost. The Municipality undertook to stadd and operate the museum. Named in honour of its benefactor, the Museum opened its doors to the public on 20th April 1991.

The Leventis Municipal Museum presents the history and social development of the city of Nicosia from the Catholic period to the present day.
