In my view you can’t visit Italy without eating ice cream, and in this part of the country the lemon granita reigns supreme. If you want to combine your ice cream eating with the pleasures of people watching, this is the perfect spot – right in the middle of Sorrento’s busiest square, the Piazza Tasso. The tables are arranged around a central service point, all of them outdoors but with an awning. As well as ice cream the bar serves a complete range of alcoholic and soft drinks, coffees (of course – this is Italy) and light meals. We both opted for ices however. There was a large selection but I knew for sure I wanted the lemon granita, and chose the straciatella (small chocolate chips in vanilla) to go with it, while Chris went for his favourite chocolate and like me the straciatella. Each glass of two generous scoops cost €4 which was good value I thought for the size and quality. This made a lovely final stop before we headed to the station for the train back to Naples.
