  The Omphalos of Delphi
by aukahkay

The omphalos, or Navel of the Earth, is a bullet-shaped rock. According to the ancient belief, the Omphalos was the tomb of the dragon Python, son of Gaia, who was killed by the god Apollo, in order to get possession of the Oracle. In another version, Zeus left free two eagles from the deepest corners of the universe, in order to find the center of the earth. They flew towards each other and met at Delphi, the Omphalos.
