Arc De Triomf, Barcelona: 67 reviews and 114 photos
The Arc de Triomf was built in 1888 by Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas for the Universal Exposition and is a sort of gateway, nowadays, from the touristy attraction of Parc de la Ciutadela to the more authentic and low-key shopping areas of the Passeig Sant Joan. I have fond memories of passing under the arch every day on my way to and from school, and it certainly is not regarded by the locals as something that should be separated and protected from the daily life of Barcelonins. The Arc is done in Moorish Revival style and contains various engravings, including the emblems of Spain and her 50 provinces. During the warmer months, the Arc and Passeig Lluís Companys form a sort of natural meeting place and are often the scene of fairs and promotional events. In April there is a pretty large organic food producers' meeting here, with lots of tasty goods for sale.
Address: Passeig de Lluis Companys.
Directions: Barri Gotic Metro: Arc de Triomf.
