Architecture / Gardens, Pasadena: 48 reviews and 136 photos
This was the first of the 10 architectural tours that the Pasadena Visitors and Convention Bureau put together that I drove, later in the afternoon I also drove through Oak Knoll. The tours have route maps through various areas of architectural significance in Pasadena and while they are meant for on foot or on bike you can also do by by car. This tour covers 1.2 miles, Lombardy Street is a quiet residential street with plenty of parking if you want to get out and walk.
The estates built here in the 1920s replaced an orange grove, the southside of Lombardy Street was once part of Henry Huntington's ranch, that would be the same Huntington that founded the Huntington Library. Most of the homes along here are styled after homes found in Italy and Spain, built because of the similar climate, although you will find the occassional Craftsman home and other architectural styles.
Directions: Homes along Lombardy Road, California Boulevard, Landor Lane and Allen Avenue
