The Varsity: "Totally Timeless!!" The Varsity Tip by johngayton

The Varsity, Cambridge: 5 reviews and 2 photos

Think of everything you've ever eaten in the 70's and add a touch of Greek-Cypriot, chuck a few off-pink (do they call that magnolia or something these days?) tableclothes over the formica. Ach, you might even add a candle or two when it gets dark outside. Old-fashioned service with a smile and not too huge a bill to finish. That's why its been around forever!

Yep, nothing ground-breaking, no snail porridge nor bacon and egg ice-cream, just good timeless classics done the old-fashioned way and none the worse for it.

This is always a busy little place and deservedly so.

Favorite Dish: Taramasalata followed by Steak Diane - who needs Mongolian fusion (that'll be the restaurant that just went bust 100 yards down the road!)?

Address: 35 St. Andrews Street.
Price Comparison: about average
Directions: On the main drag leaving the town centre going south - the little scruffy-looking place!
Phone: 01223 356060
Price: US$21-30
Rating: 4
Theme: Eclectic/International

Review Helpfulness: 3.5 out of 5 stars
