I came across this attractive looking shop after viewing the Torre dos Clerigos, on my way to the Cathedral. I was attracted to take a further look by its interesting sign and the display of food outside.

Casa Oriental is one of Portos oldest shops. It offers a reminder of Portugals colonial past, as I entered the shop, a pleasant smell of the various spices on sale was evident.

This is reportedly the best place to buy cod - for making the many variations of Bacalhau. Fresh vegetables and fruit - especially locally grown oranges and lemons also looked good quality.

I'm afraid that I didn't purchase anything from this shop, as I was busy seeing the sights and didn't want to be carrying heavy bags.

The area around here is quite interesting, with many residential houses, some looking a bit shabby, with small balconies, tiles and pot plants. Some small squares and narrow streets.

The locals carry on their daily lives here, away from the tourist throngs.

What to buy: Spices, fruit, Dry salted cod, oils, preserves, sweets and chocolates

What to pay: As little or as much as You want!
