"Yanka Kupala Park" Minsk Things to Do Tip by Carletto76

Minsk Things to Do: 164 reviews and 404 photos

Opposite the Maksim Gorky Park lies the Yanka Kupala Park. Here the river Svislač is larger and very peaceful, forming almost a lake where you can go with a rented boat for a romantic view of the park. It's one of the nicest part of Minsk, surrounded by green and nice 20th century buildings. Chaotic streets are far away (well in Minsk there are not many...) and you can just hear the sounds of nature.
Before WWII here there were many old wooden houses, the first to burn at the start of the war. Among them there was the house of the poet Yanka Kupala and there still stands (rebuilt after the war) a nice old wooden house where was held the 1st congress of RSDRP (Belarusian Communist Party) and it's now the "Museum of communism". Here the creation of the Russian social-democratic working party was proclaimed, but since Lenin was not there (he was in deportation), it was not recognised for its importance for many years. The museum is very small but it's pretty nice and worth the visit.
