"Mosquito Net is a Must" Malaysia Packing List Tip by pennies

Malaysia What to Pack: 52 reviews and 29 photos

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If you will be spending time in the jungle, rubber boots are a must. The mud NEVER dries up. You can buy cheap ones in Malaysia or borrow them from the camp. Sabah has malaria, bring long sleeved tops and long pants. Make sure you can cover yourself. It is very humid and this can be uncomfortable so bring the lightest most breathable clothing possible. if you are staying at a jungle camp, it is hard to get clean, there may be very primitive shower facilities only (a bucket!). If you can stand being sweaty and dirty for prolonged periods, bring plenty of changes of clothes.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Sabah region has malaria - bring repellent and mosquito nets. Most places will have a net, but if it has holes it's useless. Bring your own - they are useful even in non-malaria regions just to keep the creepy crawlies off the bed. I do not take anti-malarials, but you probably should!

Photo Equipment: a good zoom! You will be seeing lots of WILD animals, some dangerous, some not. For safety and out of respect for the animals' space, get a good zoom. Also, learn how to take a steady photo in a wobbly boat. You will see much of the wildlife from boat trips along the rivers - it can be difficult to get a steady photo.
