I'm not sure if you can circumnavigate a peninsula but what I'm describing here is a route that will bring you from the South Harbour, right around the edge of the Old Town, passing over the sea, then back up to Vladimira Svalbe, round in a loop and back down to Trg Valdibora, on the North Harbour.

This is an amazing walk and gives you a flavour of all the most interesting and picturesque aspects of the town.Starting at the main square, turn right along the outer edge of the harbour where the big trawlers are moored. The small street of Santa Croce will bring you tantalisingly close to the sea and right over the rocks and bathing places mentioned in the previous tip. This gradually widens out into the road you see on the main photo and photo 2, which ends up underneath the old city walls (photo 3)at the green rocky area under the church. Now you are looking straight out to sea and the offshore islands and the views are stunning. At this point you have to turn sharply inland to join the road that runs down here from the church. This gives you a chance to explore the lovely grounds round the church, if you wish, or if you've alredy done that, join the cobbled slope ( photo 4)running in the opposite direction and now you are on Vladimira Svalbe.

This is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled streets in the Old Town and there are so many interesting details to spot. Old balconies, ancient wooden doors and most spectacularly, the tiny stepped alleys that run between the houses right into the sea. Around here the stories of smugglers associated with Rovinj make a lot of sense and it's easy to imagine furtive comings and goings here under cover of darkness. This long street brings you right round the back of the peninsula until you climb back down the alley that brings you out on Tlg Valdibora. The second half of this walk continues in the next tip

Address: The road around the edge of the peninsula
Directions: Starting at the harbour, turn right and follow the directions given above.
