Amargosa Valley Off The Beaten Path: 1 reviews and 5 photos
Amargosa Valley is 85 miles West and a little North of Las Vegas. The post popular attraction to the outsiders here is the Big Dune. It is off of Hwy 95 at Valley view. That is about mile marker 36. Drive South down Valley view for a few miles and you see the dunes to the right. Close to GPS 36 38.938' N- 116 32.490' W. Back up Hwy 95 at about MM 30 is the jct of 95 and 373 and what we call Lathrop Wells. Turn down Hwy 373 toward Death Valley and drive about 14 miles and you will see the turn off to Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge. It is a left turn and you can see a big factory looking mill off to the left of the highway just at or a little after the turn. Drive back there to the East for 15 minutes or so and you will see many roads with info signs that will take you to manys ponds and reservors. But on the right side you will find a road to the main office, it will take you up to a parking area where you can walk on the nature boardwalk out to the warm springs and pond. (sorry no swimming). If you drive on passed this turnoff you can go to Devils Hole, a cavern that is filled with water that goes deep into the earth. Back up on Hwy 373 back toward the Jct was a turn off to the Senior Center and Shefiff station etc.. That is The Amargosa Farm road and at the end of it (about12-13 miles is a dirt road that takes you up into the saddle of the Funeral Mountains to old mining camps with stone foundation ruins and many old mines. On the way down the farm road you will pass Valley View that goes back out to Hwy 95 via the Big Dunes, and then Mojave rd that also goes out to Hwy 95 via the Big Dunes. Valley wirw is 8 miles from 373 and paved, Mojave is approx 11 miles from 373 and dirt. Manny many things to explore out here but no space here.
