Three times daily the 30 Meissen porcelain Glockenspiele are rung at 12, 3pm and 6pm. The bells were made by the musician Lutz Dietze who specialised in bell making at the Meissen factory but in 1933 he was sent to a concentration camp for his religious beliefs. His employers at Meissen had him released to work on the project we can see today in Boettcherstrasse. Dietze was returned to the camp when the work was completed and he died there in 1936.
