The Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), is one of the leading institutions in tropical forestry research, both within the country and abroad. It consists of an area of 600-ha and is located in Kepong, Selangor which is about 16 km northwest of Kuala Lumpur and is surrounded by the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve.

FRIM’s ‘forest tour packages’ provide opportunities for outdoor recreation and public education in its grounds. It is a popular spot for picnickers, joggers, cyclers, tourists and nature study groups, for family day events, treasure hunts, camping, birdwatching, jungle trekking and nature photography. The grounds, which began as degraded land in the form of sterile mining pools, scrubby wasteland and barren vegetable farms, long-abandoned, is today a treasure of relatively unpolluted air, cooler temperatures and quiet serenity.

There are 5 trails which you can do in FRIM :-
1)Salleh’s Trail (1.5 km)
2)Keruing Trails (1.5 km)
3)Rover Track / Jogging Trail
4)Engkabang Trail
5)Mountain Bike Trail

Entrance Fee is Myr1/- each
Car entrance fee is Myr5/- per car & driver
Canopy Walk : Myr5/- each for adult, Myr3/- for teenager and Myr1/- for children
Guide fee : Myr80/- (for max 30paxs) - this is optional as you can go venture your own

Operating Hours : Mon to Sun 7am to 7pm (Canopy walk closed on every Mon & Fri)

A group of us (8adults and 1 kid) went for the Keruing Trail and ended up with the the canopy walk (which was, unfortunately closed for maintenance). We started our trail at about 9.20am and at about 12noon we had our little picnic at the station where the canopy walk was. Since it rained the night before, there were quite a lot of leeches on the wet grounds. We had so much fun .... eeks and shouts when the leeches "attack" us..

**For those who have the leech phobia ....go during the dry season - you will be lucky if you see one of these little fellas...
