"Transport Pass/Ticket" Tickets & Passes Tip by vickss

Tickets & Passes, Rome: 6 reviews and 9 photos

The best way to get around Rome is on foot. The secodn best way is to take a travel pass which comes in various formats of one day 3 day etc etc.
I had taken a Roma Pass which is a city tourist pass and comes for 20 Euro and includes a 3 day unlimited free public transport pass(which is otherwose available for 7 Euro). The pass is like a small paper card.
The first time(or the only time) you travel in whatever mode(in bus its in the front, centre and back and in the train it is at the entry point of the platforms) you would need to get it validated(basically punched) at the machines. The machine basically sucks the ticket/pass and then gurgles and imprints a date and spits it out back to you. If you have a problem with it just reverse the side of the pass you have put inside. Its not complicated even if it may sound like that.
The passes need to be validated only once and though you would need to put inside the machine while getting to the metro platform it would spit it out without any further validation. In buses you just need to show it if anyone asks for it which is rare as I found.
I hear it is very important specially in the bus as if one gets caught without a validated ticket/pass one has to pay heavy fine even if he/she is a tourist or doesn't understand Italian.
For the metro you would can get access to the platforms only when you get it validated so thats not a problem as you cant get caught:-) but in buses you dont need to put it in the machine again and again after you have done it once.
