This small ancient mosque bears the name of Ahi Çelebi, the lead doctor at the Fatih Hospital, who built this small mosque before his death in 1523. Although the architect of the mosque is unknown, Mimar Sinan is known to have done some restoration work on the mosque. By the look of the mosque when I saw it in August 2004, Sinan's 16th century restoration work has not fared well into the 21st century. The mosque's outer walls were supported by a steel structure and it was in desperate need of restoration. It is said that the restoration work began in 2005 (could anyone confirm?).
