  Medina of Sousse
by Elisabcn

Sousse means to me a wonderful medina with nice (and courious) historical buildings. Founded during the 9th century b.C by Phoenicians it was falled to the Arabs in the 7th century a.C. who rebuilt the city. The walls, the ribat, the mosque and other monuments are from this period).
Sousse is (together with Fes) one of my favourites medinas. The best way to admire it is from the watchtower of the Ribat where you can see all the ensemble of houses and narrow streets dominated by the Kasbah (the representative and administrative part of the Medina).
As all the medinas the best way to visit it is walking along the streets without any particular direction. Otherwise i suggest you to visit:
-The ribat
-The hybrid mosque (it was built on the former kasbah, tha'ts why it has watchtowers and defensive walls)
-The kasbah
-The Koubba, with its zigzag dome

Directions: Central East of Tunisia
On the coast. Take the road that follows the Gulf of Hammament. Sousse is between Hammamet and Monastir
