Essaouira, as "an outstanding and well preserved example of a late-18th-century fortified seaport town", is an UNESCO world heritage stie. "The town is built according to the principles of contemporary European military architecture translated to a North African context. Since its foundation, it has been a major international trading seaport, linking Morocco and its Saharan hinterland with Europe and the rest of the world."
The Skala de la Ville is the most striking part of the ramparts of Essaouira's walled medina, situated above the rocks and the sea. From here you have a breathtaking view at the ocean, the cliffs and the waves. It's not only nice to walk along these ramparts, but also to stroll in the narrow alleyways of the medina, in the suqs and the harbour.
Directions: Essaioura is at the Atlantic Coast 170 km north of Agadir and 170 km west of Marrakech
