"St. Thomas Church" New York City Off The Beaten Path Tip by Paul2001

St. Thomas Church is one of those places you enter because you have a few minutes to spare before the real reason you were in the neighborhood (the MOMA) had yet to open up for the day. This comment should not be mistaken for a disparaging impression of the St. Thomas. The reason that I mention it at all is that I actually thought the church was very interesting and it is worth dropping in for a visit if you have the time.
St. Thomas Church is the fourth Episcopalian church by this name in New York. It was built between 1911 to 1913 after a design by Ralph Adams Cram. It is a classic example of a neo-Gothic Church with many superb carvings on the exterior. The interior has a massive main arcade. It is most memorable for its fine high altar.
