"Sun Yat Sen Gardens" Dr Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Gardens Tip by Ewingjr98
Dr Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Gardens, Vancouver: 21 reviews and 43 photos
The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden was built from 1985 to 1986 and is the first authentic Chinese garden ever constructed outside of China. A team of artists spent 13 months in Vancouver handcrafting the building and landscaping in the traditional methods. It was constructed to recreate the 15th Century home of a Ming Dynasty scholar.
While part of the garden is open for $8.75 guided tours only, about two-thirds of the park is open to the general public for no fee. We skipped the expensive tour, but enjoyed a peaceful and leisurely 30 minute stroll around the free portion of the garden. The ducks, turtles, and koi swimming in the pond, bamboo stands, floating lotus, and sandy trails give plenty to enjoy while you walk. The architecture is also interesting with the tile roofs, circular doorways, small bridges, and pavilions. This side of the park also has a Sun Yat Sen Monument at one entrance and a gist shop at the other entrance.
Unfortunately this area is also frequented by drugged out scammers who might try any trick in the book to get you to give them money... our pet fraud claimed he locked his keys in the car and needed cab money to get back to North Vancouver. I really think the distance is walkable in an hour. Besides, a taxi would wait at your door while you get money from the house.
Address: 578 Carrall Street, Vancouver
Directions: The main entrance to the garden is located near the corner of Carroll and Keefer, one block from Pender.
