"Montpelier National Trails Center" Garden City Off The Beaten Path Tip by Segolily
Garden City Off The Beaten Path: 2 reviews and 5 photos
I finally made it in before they closed up. It is run by volunteers who tend to pack up and leave if things are slow. I'm glad we had our short visit . It is a very worthwhile exhibit of California/Oregon/westward trail information and re-creation. Montpelier was an important stopping place along the way. Take the tour. This takes you along as if you were heading out on the Oregon Trail. First you stop for the wagon and other supplies you will need. Then you enter an encampment along the way. The trail boss will give you some stories to help pass the time. Our guide told us many of the items on exhibit were donated by locals who had all sorts of things stored away in barns and sheds. Upstairs is a museum of quilts and a dining room with covered wagons circled if you want a catered event. Downstairs is the Railroad and county museum with other interesting local items.
