Shopping is Dubai’s national sport.
(“Malling” is also synonymous to “we’re-not-really-buying-anything-

Suffice it to say… This shopping/ malling sport is not cheap. Tax-free, yes. But far from being free.

Shopping comes in very handy because after you have exhausted the must-do activities such as dune bashing, camel riding, desert safari, sky diving (if you're daring enough), fishing, bar hopping and some cultural tours, you are left with no choice but to shop, shop and shop till you drop. But just when you thought that you have overcome this shopping phase, you will catch yourself vulnerably giving-in to this sport – for the simple reason that another HUGE mall has just newly opened. (As if the current malls are still not huge enough!)

For a quick guide, here are some of the popular malls in dubai…
-- go to KARAMA: For good affordable finds.
-- go to SOUKS: For authentic and rare finds. Not to mention, discountable finds. You just got to learn how to haggle.
-- go to WAFI or BURJUMAN or MERCATO (plus a gazillion other choices): For outrageously expensive designer brands. We seriously just set foot in these malls for the aircon (and also a bit of food trips at the tried-and-tested foodcourts, haha!)

With all the fabulous & glaring stuff that each of the stores teasingly offers, I think it’s safe to say that you won’t go home empty-handed.

What to buy: Here's a shortlist of the most popular malls:

* Al Ghurair City (Deira): +971-4-2225222

* Burjuman Centre (Bur Dubai): +971-4-3520222
