It is declared a "Biosphere Reserve" by UNESCO because it is an area of great biodiversity. It is said that Charles Darwin was amazed with the view on the top. There is a couple of hour walk to a view point and about 4 hours for the top. You must also walk for one kilometer before you reach the entrance and pay the small fee. There are various walking paths well-marked and shady camping spots you can rent if you choose to camp .

Directions: From Santiago there is a bus. I came from Valparaiso. My local friends came along and insisted the easiest way is by train. So it was almost one hour by train and then we shared a taxi to a nearby point.
