Hurling is one of the two Irish national sports, Gaelic football being the other.

Hurling is similar to hockey in that there's a stick and a ball, but that's really where the similarities end. The stick is shaped differently, the game is waaayyy faster, and Irish hurlers are treated like Gods by their townsfolk.

The reason I specifically feature hurling on my Kilkenny page is that the KK hurlers are considered one of the best teams in Ireland and have repeatedly carried away the all Ireland Hurling Championship. 2007 is no exception, with the final coming up as I type....and of course KK are one of the two finals teams.

Ireland as a country is passionate about this sport and few counties more so than KK. Take a look at the pics I attach which are of a gigantic mascot atop a local pub. The mascot is dressed in the local county colours - black and amber.

If you can at all, try to get tickets for a major match. The all Ireland ones are like gold dust but if you can get your hands on them.......

Equipment: A hurley (stick) and a sliotar (ball) and a few team mates to play with.

Otherwise, just pick yourself up a county hurling strip, dress for the occasion, and head along to a game.
