  Gothic Duomo

The Duomo has statues on the spires at the top that perch on oblisks. They must be anchored good. It is the 4th largest in Europe and is flamboyant Gothic, or flame like. Built starting in 1386 and the last part in 1786-1810, most originated in 1500's and the stain glass and floors are from that era. Inside is a life like statue of St. Bartholomew, the patron saint. A protege' of Michelangelo sculpted the statue to show the muscle structure of the figure, making it surreal and grotesque, but intended to be a commemorative icon. La Modena, or Mary is perched on top of the dome.
