Brewbakers: "This one is a bit up-scale!" Top 5 Page for this destination Fredericton Restaurant Tip by Bwana_Brown

Brewbakers is a very popular downtown restaurant, busy at lunchtime with the office crowd from the three nearby large buildings of Scotiaplace, Carleton Place and the NB Power main office - not to mention the provincial government civil service offices a bit further down the street. Its eating area is made up of a number of jumbled rooms of different shapes and at various levels at or above the street, and it even has a large covered and elevated outdoor patio at the rear. This street view shows the restaurant's left section dining area as well as the windows of the main dining area above a sister restaurant (Mexicali Rosa's) at the right. We sat in a cosy little corner deep in the bowels of the restaurant somewhere between those upper right windows and the outdoor patio. The interior decor is well done and an open fired stove used for cooking their thin crust pizzas makes for quite a warm feeling on cold winter days!
Favorite Dish: We decided to have a joint birthday celebration by treating ourselves to Brewbakers, starting with their Portobello Mushroom appetizer (C$9) - marinated along with ***ake (sorry - VT censors did that to the real name!) and button mushrooms as well as red onions, garlic cream and served with a small puff pastry. This was combined with a fresh Spinach Salad (C$8) including roasted pine nuts, crispy snap peas, honey and lemon vinaigrette and shaved parmigiano-reggiano cheese. Along with our glasses of California Pinot Grigio and Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon ($7 each) sharing these dishes was an excellent way to get our meal started (2nd photo).
For the main courses (3rd photo), Sue went with one of her favourite fishes - grilled Lemon Haddock ($16) with lemon and shallot butter, capers, roasted carrots and roasted red potatoes. The Organic Coconut Curry Chicken ($24) sounded good to me, consisting of free range chicken breasts, baby bok choy, green Thai curry and lemongrass risotto. Maybe our openers had filled me up too much, but I could not finish the risotto that accompanied the chicken - but still delicious flavours! Including a second round of wines and a tip, our total bill came to about US$100. Their wine servings are a trifle on the skimpy side, so we had to alternate with sips of water as well.
