  Elephants at Addo

Addo Elephant Park has over 450 elephants and you are guaranteed to see them if you visit. The park was set up as a refuge for the last few elephants in the area in the 1930's and elephants have been introduced from other areas to increase the gene pool.
When we visited we saw lots of females with youngsters who were really cute as well as big older males. Another big plus here is the good sightings of black Rhino, and we also saw Jackal, antelope and endemic to the area flightles dung beetles. There were no predators when we visited but lion have been introduced since then.
You can visit Addo in a day trip from Port Elizabeth, as it is only 1 hour drive, but it really is worth staying over for 2 nights to get the benefit of the game drives. We stayed at Gorah elephant camp which was superb but I couldn't find any current references so it may have changed hands or name. A good UK tour company are Rainbow Tours who know SA very well and have 2 places to stay here.
