"PATH - The Underground Maze" Toronto Transportation Tip by penumbra
Toronto Transportation: 337 reviews and 346 photos
Like most large Canadian cities, Toronto has joined many of it buildings together to help pedestrians avoid the inclement winter weather. Toronto has chosen to join their buildings together underground and they call this labyrinth the PATH. Superficially, the PATH follows a grid pattern. Unfortunately, portions of the PATH were built at different times, so in practice, there are elevation changes (stairs), diagonals and no way to check your bearings by looking out a window. There are frequent maps posted though, so don?t despair. I?ve always found it to be a clean, safe and delightful source of shops and restaurants. The only other warning I?d pass alone it to avoid the PATH between noon and 1pm (lunch hour) on weekdays. At those times, the PATH is filled with hungry office workers focused on finding a quick bite and you don?t want to come between them and their food.
