Tangle River Inn: "At the end of the pavement" Top 5 Page for this destination Alaska Restaurant Tip by PA2AKgirl

There aren't many options for food on the Denali Highway...there aren't many options for any services, really. And after a night of camping, we really wanted to get into someplace warm with coffee. The Tangle River Inn is located 20 miles into the highway, still on the pavement and has pretty much everything--a place to stay, full menu, guided trips, a bar and wonderful scenery. We went for breakfast and while the menu was small and simple, it was perfect for the early morning. They have your typical American breakfast food...omelets, french toast, pancakes, oatmeal (i think) and so on. If it's blueberry season (we missed it by a week), there are blueberry pancakes and muffins as well. For lunch and dinner, they have a larger menu...a buffet for tour groups, meals for individual families and desserts for everyone.
At night, the bar claims to be the most remote karaoke bar in AK but since it is connected by a road, one that's still paved at that point, I'm not so sure.
Favorite Dish: We both got the french toast...and it was good. What more can you say about french toast? Large portion, not a bad price and it arrived quickly. The server also kept the coffee coming which is what we needed.
Now, a highlight of this place is the view. They have binoculars at the windows so you can look for wildlife and eat at the same time. However, when we went, it was very foggy and we could see nothing. Still, it's a good place to eat if you want to get off the main highway for awhile, see some wonderful scenery and increase your chances of spotting wildlife.
Additionally, the inside is very cute and you can buy gifts at the register. It's an all inclusive Inn or you can choose to just have a meal here. They close in late September and open again in May.
