Casco Vieja: "Hostel in Old Town" Panama Hotel Tip by CaddisonHoward

Panama Hotels: 92 reviews and 104 photos

The new part of Panama City can be overwhelming. Start with this older part of the city where the spaces are smaller and the feel is intimate. Staying in Casco Vieja (or Antigua) is a wonderful way to see how Panama City once was. The President's Palace is right around the corner from the hostel and he actually walked by with his entourage as I was taking a leisurely stroll. In a few blocks there are restored homes, great restaurants, friendly squatters, local artists and City Hall. You can see the rest of the city across the bay from the view off the edge of the wall surrounding this part of town.

Unique Qualities: Paying less than fifteen dollars a night for a clean and tidy room and having internet access free is my idea of good traveling. You can cook in the kitchen downstairs and the desk staff is always courteous and helpful. Safety was no concern and I loved the neighborhood.

Price Comparison: less expensive than average
Price: less than US$20
