  Duomo in Bergamo

The Duomo or Basilica di Sant?Alessandro is the main church, but it lacks the glance that the nearby church buildings (Santa Maria Maggiore, Capella Colleoni) have. Built in the 15th century, it was rebuilt in 1689 and then again between 1886 and 1889, changing its renaissance appearance into a more modern one. Inside, there are different works of art, some of which are from early christian ages. The Baptisterium at the Piazza Duomo is part of the church (although it was once inside of Santa Maria Maggiore). At the time I visited Bergamo, the duomo was closed for restoratiuon works again?.

Address: Piazza Duomo
Directions: Città Alta, just behind Piazza Vecchia.
