Bergamo is a city with many towers, with many of them belonging to the church. A special funtion is attributed to the Torre Suardi, which does not belong to any church, but to the city council. It was an alarm bell, but also used to mark other events, such as the beginning of the night curfew. The tower was built in the 13th century and rebuilt again in the early 19th. With a height of 53 meters, it is one of the talles buildings in the Citta Alta. Although Torre Suardi is its official name, ?Il Campanone? (perhaps best translated with ?big bell?) is also widespread. Although there is no night curfew, the bell is still struck like in old times ? just to maintain the tradition.

P.S.: Thanks to Mariajoy for the correction of a grammatical error :)
