Al Azhar Park, Cairo: 13 reviews and 38 photos
Inaugurated in May 2005, al-Azhar Park is considered one of the most successful urban rehabilitation projects in the world. A large area consisting of a hill that had become a landfill adjacent to Islamic Cairo was turned into a beautiful park with panoramic views of the city and its thousand minarets. The project also led to the discovery of an intact section of the 12th century Ayyubid city wall, which was restored in the process. Within the park, there is a restaurant and cafés which make a perfect stopping point on a day touring Islamic Cairo. The park has become a popular outing for local Egyptian youth and families and is a great place to mix with the locals. A small admission fee is charged for entry into the park.
Address: Salah Salem Street
Directions: Best take a taxi to the park, wherever you're coming from...
