In the old part of Skopje (Carsija), north of the Stone Bridge, you will find the Museum of the Old Skopje Bazaar. The museum is housed in an old trading inn, called Suli An.
The trading inn Suli An was built in the 15th century. The porch was supported by 18 stone pillars connected with arches, behind which were 27 rooms, with additional 30 rooms on the upper floor.
Nowadays, the museum is upstairs, while the university´s Department of Applied Arts is downstairs. The museum has an exhibition of the trading life in Skopje.
Entrance was still free in 2007. Open every day except Saturday and Sunday from 08.00-14.00 according to the sign at the entrance.
Look at the pictures to see what the entrance of the Suli An looks like, you might miss it!
We had an excellent -private!- tour in perfect English by a very enthusiastic girl...
The Chifte Amam, housing a national gallery, lies immediately south of the Suli An.
