Brancoveanu Monastery in Sambata de Sus is one of the best-known and most visited in Transylvania. Its history started in the 17th century, when Preda Brâncoveanu erected on Sambata Valley the first church built in wood. Under the rule of Voievode Constantin Brancoveanu, the original wooden church was replaced with the actual stone church.
The new monastery houses a museum, which exhibits one of the ancient glass painting collections belonging to the 18th-19th century. Besides the glass-made-icons, can be admired clothes worn by monks, ecclesiastical objects and a huge library.
