Pembroke was originally a community of the large area that was Batavia. As Pembroke grew so did its need for independence and in the 1800s it became a town of its own. Over the years, other communities have gravitated towards union with Pembroke.

Today the communities that are associated with Pembroke township are:
Brick House Corners... junction of Main Street (route 5) and Allegany Road (route 77)
Cookville... http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/d6398/cca74/
Corfu... village south of the town
part of East Pembroke...hamlet on Main Street (route 5)
Indian Falls... hamlet on the Tonawanda Creek and route 77
North Pembroke... on the Tonawanda Creek, northeast of town
Pembroke Center ... on Main Street between Pembroke and East Pembroke
Richville... community in the west part of the town
