This huge building dominates the northern side of BBD Bagh (Dalhousie Square). It originally served as the office for Company writers, hence the name. Designed by Thomas Lyon in 1780, it received its impressive Corinthian facade, an example of Neo-Renaissance, in 1889. Today, it is the secretariat of the West Bengal State Government. I took a photo of the building and got told off for doing so by a policeman far off in the distance so be warned!
