The Alice Hawthorne.
The pub is a typical English country pub. It has a roaring log fire (in the winter), but be careful not to get a table too near it, or you'll be grilled alive!

Favorite Dish: To be honest there's not a great deal for we vegetarians, but what there is is tasty and well prepared. The best bet is one of the specials from the blackboard, which change regularly.

For you carnivores, there's a much larger choice, including a variety of steaks, sausage dishes, pies and casseroles. It's all very hearty English cooking and in a superb setting.

The pub sells good British Ale and a great selection of Country Wines (wines made from such things as Blackberries, Parsnips, Elderflower) and some of Scotlands finest Whisky.

Directions: In the village of Nun Monkton, see the 'Off The Beaten Path' entry.
