The watermill ?Ruitersmolen? is one of the few historical monuments in the village of Beekbergen. The mill was built already in the year of 1606 and originally used as a paper mill. During that period there were a lot of paper mills on the Veluwe using the water, which flowed from the hills.
In 1843 it became a flourmill, which was used even after World War II. After the closure of the mill the building - as so often with these kinds of monuments - deteriorated much and it became more or less a ruin. Fortunately a group of volunteers restored this old mill and it even can be used again. There is a fall of the water of 2,5 metres.
Nowadays it is located in a nice setting of a stream (Beekbergse Beek), some mill ponds, woodland and a botanical garden next to the mill. The mill has a small shop and it is possible to get a drink.
The mill can be visited the whole year on Tuesday and Thursday from 9.00 ? 16.00 hours.
From the end of June till September: Tuesday and Thursday 9.00 ? 16.00 hours, Wednesday and Friday 10.00 ? 17.00 hours, Saturday and Sunday 13.30 ? 17.00 hours.
Address: De Ruitersmolen Tullekensmolenweg 47 7361 EP Beekbergen, located about 6 km?s south of Apeldoorn; accessible by car or bike. Public transportation to Beekbergen and on foot about 1 ˝ km?s.
