Highfield House: "Great B&B near Edinburgh" Scotland Hotel Tip by himalia11

We spent our first nights in Scotland in this B&B in Kirknewton. It's an old house, really lovely, with parking directly in front of it. We had a very spacious room with TV and tea making facilities, and there even were some guidebooks and brochures. It was a bit cold but we had an electric blanket in the bed, great! The owner Jill was very helpful and her breakfast was fantastic. There's a nice garden with benches and a little tennis court. I think it was the best B&B we've stayed at in Scotland, but also the most expensive! But it was the only one were you could pay with credit card, and that without a charge.
Kirknewton is a small village west of Edinburgh with a railway station, a small supermarket and nice park with playground. We were looking for a B&B outside of Edinburgh as we didn't want to drive in the city and also wanted to explore the south of Scotland. For this, Highfield House was perfectly located. We used the Hermiston Park and Ride (8 km/ 5 miles away) to go to Edinburgh rather than going by train as busses run more frequently. There?s no restaurant or pub with bar meal in Kirknewton, but it's just a short drive to some restaurants and Jill will be happy to recommend you some!
Price Comparison: more expensive than average
Directions: 16 km/ 10 miles southwest of Edinburgh near East Calder. Kirknewton is well signposted from the A71. In Kirknewton opposite of the church you'll see a long wall on the left (when you come from north) with a gate. Drive through it and you'll see the house.
