"The Roald Dahl Story Centre" Buckinghamshire Things to Do Tip by smirnofforiginal

Buckinghamshire Things to Do: 21 reviews and 50 photos

A great little museum all about Roald Dahl, who was Great Missenden's most famous resident. Children each get a "My Story Ideas Book" and a pencil to help keep them amused around the museum
Gallery One is "Boy Gallery" which deals with Roald Dahl's memoirs ("Boy" & "Going Solo"). In this gallery there are letters and documents from when Roald Dahl was growing up as well as many photos.
Gallery Two "Solo Gallery" is more child friendly as it is more hands on. There are some simple activities - such as making sea gulls (from James And The Giant Peach) and to stamping in the "My Story Ideas Book"
Gallery Three "Story Centre" is the final gallery and the one of most interest to the children. Here you can make your own dreams (by recording into a machine) and then listen to the play back. Another good activity is a computer that allows you to take many photos before playing them back as an animated story. There are other simple activities such as making silly sentances and words and also an "art" room where children can draw and colour, cut, glue and stick.

There are good visitor facilities, including toilets, a cafe and a lovely shop (all of which you can use without having to go around the museum).

For a family of four it will cost around £20 to visit the museum.... and it is geared more towards the older child. It is definitely a help if your children can read.
It is nice but it is small and I was pleased that I had been given a free ticket!

The staff are lovely and friendly.

There is a good car park - a 5/10 minute walk away (pay & display) opposite which there is a park with picnic tables and a good playground.
