Favorite thing: This little lane runs uphill from the Giant's Cottage to Desmond Castle. It's impossible not to stop to admire its tiny colourful houses with funny names.
In the 15th - 16th centuries the old harbour of Kinsale used to be situated at the bottom of the lane and Desmond Castle served as a customs house. One of the castle museum's exhibits is a sedan chair, which was used to transport merchants from their ships to the castle to settle their bills with the customs. The men who carried them lived in the small houses in what is now Chairman's Lane, which explains its name. I cannot be sure if the Giant's Cottage belonged to the Giant of Kinsale (see my tip on the Old Courthouse) nor do I know why the charming tiny blue house in the picture bears the name of the Mansion House, but the names are enchanting as is the street itself.
I certainly wouldn't mind living in one of these little houses myself!
