Chowking is a Philippine-based Chinese cuisine fast-food restaurant chain, predominantly selling noodle soups, dimsum, Dumplings, Fried Foods and rice toppings. It was founded in 1985 by Robert Kuan as a Chinese counterpart to American fast-food giant McDonald's, Chowking expanded steadily through the 1980s and 1990s, and eventually venturing into international markets, such as the United States and the Middle East. The chain was bought by Jollibee Foods Corporation in 1999, who have since continued both local and international expansion.
Chow King has a counterpart in Shanghai, China Named Yonghe King altough the menus are somwhat different (example, in manila dipping sauce for dumplings is soy sauce and Kalamansi (philippine Lime) and chili while in Shanghai it is Soy sauce and chili only!), they are also owned by the mother company Jolibee Foods Corporation.
