The Ngo Mon gate (Noontime Gate), is the main entrance gate to Hue's imperial city. it is imposing and had three arches; only emperors could access the Imperialcity through the central arch - all the other people had to use the left and right arch.

The upper level of the gate is called the Ngu Phung (Belevedere of the Five Phoenixes), in this place the Emperor appeared to people on special occasions, the last of which being on 30 August 1945, when Emperor Bao Dai abdicated to Ho Chi Minh's government in 1945, thus marking the end of the Nguyen Dynasty.

Built in 1834 during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang, it is said that this gate is very similar to the entrance gate of the Forbidden City in Beijing... One day I will have to check this out.
