La Boqueria - Mercat St Josep, Barcelona: 32 reviews and 57 photos
I had heard about this Mercat (market) but I had no idea until I stumbled across it during an early morning walk how magnificent it is. This is the ultimate farmer's market of all farmer's markets. I had never seen anything remotely like this in the US. The Mercat has stand after stand of various food items with the most beautiful displays. Fruit, vegetables, meats, poultry, fish, shellfish, nuts, dried fruits, candy, tapas, mushrooms, nuts, spices, breads, cheeses. As an amateur cook, I was in heaven. It is held every day, I believe. Go early - before lunch is best. The stands start closing down in the afternoon, some earlier than others.
Address: Rambla 91
Directions: The Mercat is on La Rambla, about halfway between Place de Catalunya and the waterfront.
