"The Oldest Underground in Europe" Metro - Subway Tip by monkeytrousers

Metro - Subway, Budapest: 7 reviews and 14 photos

  Bajcsy-Zsilinszky ut Underground station
by monkeytrousers

Running all the way along underneath Adrassy ut and extended a bit further each way is Europe's first underground line, nicknamed the 'Golden Line'. The line is not very far at all below ground level - no more than one storey and you can feel the rumble on ground level as the train runs underneath you.

The stations are brilliantly preserved and there are some notes on each of them on the line about its history which is quite interesting.
