"Mount Shasta" Other National / State Parks Tip by Ewingjr98

Other National / State Parks, California: 59 reviews and 122 photos

At 14,179 feet, Mount Shasta is California's fifth tallest mountain and the second highest in the Cascades. It stands around 10,000 feet over the surrounding terrain, making it visible from a long distance. Shasta is a volcanic mountain parts of which were formed hundreds of thousands of years ago, but has erupted as recently as 1786. The peak is white year round, as it is covered with seven major glaciers. The mountain is popular for many outdoor sports, especially climbing in the summer.

We were amazed to discover that we could see this huge peak from about 50 miles to the north and for another 50 miles to the south... it towers over everything else in the region.
