After 1894 Mining Registrars offices were set up in the goldfields. These were manned by a Mining Warden, a Mining Registrar and sometimes a clerk or assistant. They were there to enforce the mining laws and regulations as well as register and record claims and licenses. Today there are 12 Mining Registrar?s offices around regional Western Australia. If you want to prospect on Crown Land, you just need to obtain a Miner?s Right. You can then collect samples up to 20kg as well as look for gemstones and rocks.
