ROM - Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto: 41 reviews and 90 photos
Toronto's latest attraction is the Michael Lee-Chin crystal, an addition to the Royal Ontario Museum. Its something that has divided Torontonians, with a reported 60% of people surveyed saying they dislike the Liebskind design. It may seem a bit out of place on a street that mixes some of Toronto's earlier architecture with the newer yet more subdued shopping centres and stores, but you cannot say that it hasn't generated interest in the general public about what downtown Toronto should look like and in which direction the city's architectural heritage should be headed. Construction is not yet fully completed (July 2007) as the workers still have to repair the sidewalks and other areas around the building, but the entrance to the Museum is now at the crystal's base rather than at the old entrance on Avenue Road. Those with verigo beware! Walking towards the crystal from the west (from the area around the Conservatory) may cause you to get dizzy because of the sharp angles of the overhang. The same thing doesn't seem to happen when you walk from the east.
